Q. What is I’m Sorry to Hear?

A. I'm Sorry To Hear is the premier online destination that connects families and funeral professionals in a dedicated online marketplace. It is designed to be straightforward, informative, and interactive allowing users to save time during the research and planning process by quickly finding the funeral-related businesses that they need to arrange a funeral or memorial service.

Most important of all, it is the online destination to have your voice heard (good, neutral, or bad) regarding your interactions and experiences with funeral homes and the other businesses that you use for a memorial or funeral.  Your opinions matter and community members and funeral professionals alike want to know your thoughts to help with their decision making or making alterations to their operations to better meet the community’s needs.

Q. Does it cost anything to use the website to plan a funeral?

A. No! It is absolutely FREE to use the website to research funeral arrangements and learn how to plan a funeral.  There is NO COST to create a User Profile.

Q. What is a Vendor?

A. A Vendor is a funeral home or other business or professional who offers funeral-related products and services in the United States. 

We have robust directory of funeral homes across 25 states and invite other businesses to list themselves in our vendor marketplace, making it easier for families to find them and connect in arranging a funeral.

Q. Do I need to create a profile on the website?

For Consumers

Consumers do not need a User Profile to use I'm Sorry to Hear to plan a funeral. We encourage you to Create a User Profile to take advantage of all the information and resources we have listed on our website now and in the future as well as to stay up to date on company news and new features that become available to assit you in pre-planning a funeral or memorializing a loved one.

However, we do require a verified User Profile before consumers leave reviews on any of the funeral vendors in the I'm Sorry to Hear funeral vendor marketplace.

A Note on Funeral Homes

We have scoured the internet to provide you with information pertaining to each funeral home listed at I'm Sorry to Hear. However, our information is as good as the information the funeral homes publically make available. We provide it to you in a standardized format so you can "compare apples to apples" and perform a customized search.

Funeral homes that have websites tend to have a more complete and comprehensive profiles.

Funeral homes without a website are more difficult to gather information on.

For funeral homes without websites, we make the assumption that they offer Traditional Burials, and we verify their information with the appropriate governmental agency to ensure they have the proper license in place to serve you. Therefore, just because a funeral home profile doesn't state that they offer Cremation or Veteran Services, for example, does not mean they don't; they just do not publically disclose that, so you should call them to inquire if you are considering using their services and that is important to you.

For Funeral Vendors

If you would like your business to appear in the I'm Sorry to Hear funeral vendor marketplace for families to consider when planning a funeral, you have the option of creating a Basic or Premium profile. Your Vendor Profile will allow you to list your business's key contact information and website, as well as the products or services you offer. In some cases the religious or cultural affiliations you have can also be listed (vendor-type specific)

A Premium Profile allows vendors to get further visibility with families by providing additional customizations to the way their business's profile appears. Premium features include the addition of photos, video, PDFs, & About Us. Premium Profiles also receive preffered placement in Search Results when they meet a families search criteria.

Q. What Countries and States does the website support?

A. I'm Sorry to Hear currently supports funeral planning in the United States. We offer a comprehensive listing of all the funeral homes across 25 states with the goal of having all funeral homes in the United States and Canada so people across both countries can benefit from the streamlined search functionality and peer-to-peer reviews that are so valuable during the evaluation and decision-making processes.

We do expand to new states periodicaly so be sure to check in the footer of the website to see a full list of the states that we have in our marketplace.

We now also offer the opportunity for other funeral-related businesses to have a vendor profile and list their products in services for families to consider. To get started with reaching more families locally, create a Vendor Profile.

Q. What do I do if the funeral home or other funeral vendor I am looking for does not appear on the website?

A. Regardless of which state the funeral home or funeral vendor is located, if they offer products and services to families in the United States they can be listed in the I'm Sorry to Hear vendor marketplace.

Consumers can Suggest a Business be added and reviewed. We will notify the funeral vendor that they have been suggested to join, and if they join I'm Sorry to Hear's vendor marketplace you will be able to post your review and rating on the website to share with others.

Q. Why doesn’t my funeral home appear on the website?

A. Currently I'm Sorry to Hear has information on the funeral homes in 25 states:

AK | AZ | CA | CT | DC | DE | FL | GA | MA | MD | ME | HI |

IL | NC | NH | NJ | NY | OH | PA | RI | SC |TX | VT | VA | WV 

We will be expanding to include all 50 states and Canadian Provinces.  If you would like your funeral home(s) listed in our online community and it does not currently appear, you can add the establishment(s) by visiting the List Your Business page and filling out the information needed to create a Vendor profile on the website.  A Vendor Profile allows you to display the funeral services that you offer and reach families looking for local funeral service providers.

Q. Why do some funeral homes have more information than others?

A. We encourage all funeral homes with or without websites to access and update their profiles (for free) to ensure the community knows of all the services and specializations that their funeral homes offer.

However, for funeral homes without websites and that have not updated their profile, we make the assumption that they offer Traditional Burials, and we verify their information with the appropriate governmental agency to ensure they have the proper license in place to serve you.  Therefore, just because a funeral home profile doesn't state that they offer Cremation or Veteran Services, for example, does not mean they don't; they just do not publically disclose that, so you should call them to inquire if you are considering using their services and that is important to you.

Q. I am not a funeral home but I want to list my products or services on the website. How can I do this?

A. The I'm Sorry to Hear vendor marketplace is open to a variety of business and professionals that offer funeral-related products and services.  While we have comprehensive information on funeral homes across the states that we have officially launched, we welcome businesses from any state to create a profile and select the category that is most appropriate for them.

Q. Do only the Vendors that have Premium profiles appear in my search results?

A. Absolutely not.  It is our belief that families planning a funeral should have access to all funeral home information and receive unbiased information to make a decision that is best for them.  After inputting your initial search criteria, the first search results list will contain all funeral businesses that meet your criteria. You will notice that the ones with photos will appear at the top of the listings.  These are the ones that have Premium profiles.

As a website user, you may sort the results in a manner that best suits you. For example, you may sort by Distance, Rating, Number of Reviews, or Alphabetically. You may further refine your search by using the refining features on the left-hand side of the website.

Q. Will I’m Sorry To Hear edit the reviews I post?

A. We do not edit reviews posted by our members. We do make sure that all reviews meet our guidelines before they are posted. If they do not, we will go back to the member with questions and get clarification before posting. By checking reviews before they are visible to other members, we are able to screen out Vendors who are self-reporting or people who are trying to review repeatedly on the same company.

Q. Do you remove negative reviews?

A. No! The only reason we would ever remove or deny a review is if we find out the review was fraudulently posted or the content is inappropriate.

Funeral vendors have the ability to review their profiles and reviews at any time. They are have the option to comment on reviews to provide clarification, provide a different point of view, or give a simple Thank You for the feedback.
